I’m married to a (wheelchair-using) disabled angler on a mission to get less able/disabled people all over the UK back out fishing. We have developed a Buddy System to bring anglers together and promote a passion for angling, while forming lasting friendships. My husband is touring the UK in our RV (affectionately known as “The Buddy Bus”), alone and meeting up with potential and actual fishing Buddies. He has appeared on local and national TV, been in the angling press and done live radio interviews. He’s very passionate about our cause and has my total support and love. We live in rural North Devon with our daughter, 2 dogs, a cat and HIS parrot! Life is never dull!

That started in May 2007 and it was a very busy year for both of us. Since then, our DD has become homeschooled, due to the inadequacies of her local school (and that’s the nicest way I can put it, frankly!) and Nick hasn’t been on the road as much this year – the weather throughout our ‘Summer’ was shocking and his health has deteriorated quite a bit. We also had to consider the effect of the fuel price hikes and other socio-economic factors on people’s pockets. Everyone is feeling the pinch this year so we can’t expect them to keep donating!
We’ve had some success pointing people in the right direction, matching people up and of course, we had that wonderful day out with Mike and the lads from Leonard Cheshire recently. It’s wonderful to have people get in touch with us and to be in a position to help them. We are looking for more suitable accommodation in the Halwill/Okehampton area, as Nick now needs level access and I’m sick of worrying about him falling and stumbling, should I go out. I think the biggest challenge for a private landlord is the fact that we have 2 dogs, a cat and a parrot… although I can attest to them all being very well-behaved (if you don’t take into consideration that Gizmo (Parrot), sometimes resembles a sailor under the influence of rum!)
Ah well, that’s where we are at for now and thank heavens I make time to create art every day. It has saved my sanity! xoxoxo
Since then, in April this year (2009), we found a bungalow with a roof conversion in Bude and have happily moved. Due to the warmer weather lately, Nick has been fishing his head off and even going to matches, including “Fish O’Mania”!! We are also going to be at The Pirate Trust’s Charity Garden Party – Royal Cornwall Showground – on Saturday July 25th, where we’ll be fundraising and raising awareness of ROW in Cornwall. Looks like another busy summer… and you can find Nick at Tintagel Market (Castle car park) every Thursday throughout the season.
Me? I am having a blast, learning to paint with Julie Prichard’s online Layer Love Class. In fact, we all are and it’s wonderful to learn something brand new… Life is excellent!!
