Artygirlz #51

It’s almost a year since Crissi & Julie started AG! I can’t believe how quickly the months have passed… well this week they have asked us to make/show something we made inspired by our home. Well, when Nick set off round the UK on his crusade to help people with mobility issues get back into angling – aswell as encouraging youngsters and beginners to take up the sport – I thought he could do with a little bit of home comfort in the RV. Here’s a plaque I made for him, in situ, in the front of the Van!!

The tag says that she’s the love of his life and the bane of mine!!! Gizmo is a conure African Grey parrot, 3 years old, hormonal, possessive and definitely Nick’s bird! She sings: “Good morning, good morning!” from ‘Singing in the Rain’, “Food, Glorious Food!” from Oliver and swears a lot too! She can do the phone ringing, answer it, have a credible conversation and hang up – complete with the beep as you put the phone back in its cradle.

She chatters, barks, calls ‘Hello?’ when you’re trying to ignore her and can call each of us – including the dogs – in our own voices. I have no idea how many words her vocabulary consists of now, but it’s plenty for a 3 year old… and when you think that she could live to be 70-80… scary!!

So she’s my home-inpsired artwork for this week. In case you’re wondering, Nick does have photos of DD, me and the dogs on his phone. He doesn’t just carry the parrot about. 😉

Love that the bird is hormonal…OMG, so funny.
I had an Umbrella Cockatoo, she now lives with my sister in law, on a farm. Still love her, but she got way to destructive. Maybe she was hormonal too.

  4. This is so personal and I can relate to the hormonal parrot as I am 6 months postnatal.. Great piece of work. Would be great if you could add sounds to the piece then you could have the plaque singing in the rain! Pascale 🙂

  6. I adore Gismo too, and he/she reminds me so much of my Casper. Sadly, we no longer have him but he was mine, No skip that bit , I was HIS and nobody was safe around me if he was out of his cage. LOL and if I ever had the audacity to ignor him, well he let me know it in no uncertain terms ‘Squawk’

  8. Is Gizmo really that blue? What a gorgeous color! I think it’s hillarious what all he can do! As long as he didn’t wake me when I’m trying to sleep, I could definitely respect a bird with all those talents!! And speaking of talent, your Gizmo art is fabulous!! That look in his eye–you can tell there’s a lot of mischief going on!
