I love using this stamped image from Third Coast… so much so, that I created an Autumn-themed piece on 8″x8″ canvas board around her. I used pale pearlescent Stewart Gill paint (like my journal pages on leaf prints), glazed with the orange and then a little dry-brushed red acrylic in the centre. The image was stamped onto tissue paper and left to dry.
I gathered a few leaves from the garden, cleaned them up and stuck them straight down with gel medium. I used another leaf loaded with black acrylic paint for the border and let that all dry completely. I then adhered the image to the centre of the canvas, added gloss gel medium to seal it and finished it off with a little paint to blend in the edges. There’s a lot more shimmer to the whole piece in RL, but it scanned reasonably well.
This is my entry to this week’s Mixed Media Monday, whose challenge to you is to create something in the colours of autumn.

/ November 4, 2008Oh my goodness! Did you say you just grabbed up some leaves and put them onto your work – just like that – without having to preserve them? You mean I can do that??? You have no idea how excited that makes me. Just today I was looking at all the magnificent leaves scattered on the ground and wondering how I could incorporate them into my collages…what I could use to keep them from falling apart. So, I can just dip them in gel mediums? Wow. This is a big happy surprise for me.
Thanks for visiting me again! xoxo Serena

/ November 4, 2008Fabulous! I love the colors and textures in this canvas even more than in your blue piece! That face is amazing! I hadn’t thought about it, but this stamp has me noticing other faces on rubber stamps and making comparisons. There was a huge rubber stamp vendor sale here last weekend with lots of amazing face stamps, but none compared to this one. It’s more alive, I think. And I think that the leaves in her hair harmonize beautifully with the autumn colors. WOW! This is gorgeous!
