Sleet, snow, storms…

It’s a good friend’s birthday tomorrow and I have been designing my head off and completing projects all over the place lately. I sat down to make her a card to send with her present last night and decided that I really wanted to make her a present instead. Bearing in mind it was past 9 o’clock last night when I decided this, and I was on the phone to my friend at the time, I had to shift a bit!

I’ve been itching to use paint on fabric ever since I got Traci Bautista’s ‘Collage Unleashed’ for Christmas and I am a little obsessed with my chosen Heart shape, so I painted the red heart onto the fabric, heat set it (cool bubbles!!) and outlined it with fabric paint. Heat set that too and then got out the rest of the bits n bobs. The last white heart at the bottom is my handcarved heart for the GPP Street Team Crusade #27, stamped with gesso.

So here’s what I made her…in primary and seconday colours!!

cat-quiltie

The red netting was heated gently so I could control how much of it melted and where. The image is a Crafty Individuals miniature, flowers are recycled and the stitching is courtesy of my wonderfully forgiving Brother Innovis 50 – my bestest fabric friend and collaborator!

This quiltie fits with MMM’s ‘primary/seconday colours’ theme, Created by Hand’s ‘Hearts’ theme and of course my exploration of the hearts at the Street Team Crusade #27 – woohoo!

We’ve had snow, sleet, hailstorms and rain since yesterday and there was such a bad thunderstorm (brief, but fierce) I thought the dogs – especially little Millie – were going to have a heart attack… Millie was shaking as hard and fast as a pneumatic drill, poor mite. We all took turns cuddling her till she calmed down a bit. Thor – the GSD – sought sanctuary under the parrot’s cage! Like Gizmo could protect him! The only one who was seemingly too cool to react was the cat… Fortunately we only lost power briefly a couple of times, but this weather is so extreme for us, it really makes you wonder whatever next?

Take care if you’re in the storm zone and don’t travel unless you really need to, is my advice. 🙂

  19. Love it 🙂 And you melt the netting on? Cool! I have Traci’s book too and can see why you’re so inpsired.
But your poor pets – we don’t have big storms here usually thank goodness. Faith gets upset even if she hears thunder too close by. And as for the bird saving the dog – go figure LOL
