Non-paper/card ATCs

On UK Art Swaps, we have monthly ATC swaps and this month, we have to make non-paper/card ATCs (3 of them), with a common theme. I chose to make fabric ATCs (of course!), but I challenged myself to go one step further and quilt them.

I fell in love with this fabric, which in hindsight, is a tad heavy for quilting, but I had a go. I have learned a lot about myself and my sewing machine today…

1. We are both fallible, even though we co-operate most of the time!

2. Free-motion embroidery is nowhere near as easy as it looks/sounds!

3. Square embroidery hoops are not ideal for circular motion!

4. I should save for a quilting foot attachment!

That said, I hope my swap partner likes the “floral ABC” ATCs I made for her. I did back them with card, simply to make it easier to sign them!! This is also my entry to Theme Thursday – “Flowers”.

  3. This is wonderful, Rosie! I love how you stamped the flower!

And I agree…free motion machine quilting is a b*#%h! I don’t understand it when machine quilters say it “relaxes” them! It tenses me up!! But I love hand quilting, and will continue with slow work while others make beautiful free motion patterns with talent that is just beyond me! XOXO

  4. I think it’s great! I’m learning that I don’t know as much about sewing as I should know at this age…guess I should spend more time with my friend, my sewing machine. lol
