Hold me closer…

Mixed Media Monday – this week’s challenge is to create a piece of art based on/around a song, or piece of music that moves us. I’ve created using Elton John’s “Tiny Dancer” before and it still haunts me. This evening I was talking to DD about her future plans – so much pressure on kids to decide what they want to do before they’ve even experienced life per se. She’s a gifted dancer, but also gifted academically and I can often see her being pulled in two (or more) different directions.

I sincerely hope that she follows her heart and dances, if that’s what she wants. After all, she doesn’t have to stop studying and her future may well lie elsewhere later in life, but for now she will dance, because she “can”…

So here’s the journal page I made, with the Muse upon me, about my “Tiny Dancer”.

TinyDancer-MMM

I’m not very good at drawing, so the tiny dancer, although drawn freehand, is deliberately very feint!! I’m still a bit unsure about this whole art  journalling quest I’m on, but I do enjoy creating these pages, so it’s gotta be good, right? Also, it must be one hell of a lot cheaper than therapy!!!

  11. I love that song and a ballerina was probably easier to draw than a crocodile rock or rocket man – and much prettier anyway.
    Very lovely journal page.

  14. Oh, how this entry goes straight to my heart! I shared the same dream, so I really enjoyed reading your post today. Tiny Dancer is also one of my favorite songs of all time. You piece is just beautiful, Rosie, so full of love and support. Your daughter is lucky to have a mom like you teaching her the importance of creative expression and supporting her dreams

  15. Wonderful Rosie – this piece speaks straight to the heart of any mum who has the best interests of their child at heart – they need to know at this early stage that of course they “can” – lovely choice of words!
