Garden Fairies – Swap ’til you Drop!

This month’s swap host is Nancy (Gothic Arches) Maxwell James and she has chosen Garden Fairies as our theme… I don’t like fairies in the traditional sense. I don’t believe they are pretty, ethereal beings, flitting from flower to leaf, oh no! I lean towards the mischief-maker, likely to pull your hair when you’re reading a book laying on the lawn, making you jump in the dusk as you let the dog out last thing… yeah – the Dark Fairies.

But, as the lovely Chrissy is hosting the swap and I aim to please, I have tailored my garden fairy ATCs to the greater good… with a bit of a twist!

The bases are all craft Vilene, or pelmet vilene…

… painted with gesso and sprayed with green ink.

Then I dropped some alcohol ink on the paler areas – 2 shades of green –

I drew ‘birds’ in the gesso and highlighted them with black ink. I then stamped fairy trees and toadstools from HOME IMPRESSIONS  (Toadstools 2 & Fairy Houses), onto clear plastic strips and stitched them to the ATCs…

The final steps were adding small images (Ten Two Studios), stitching them in place; adding a little ricrac ribbon with staples and then inking the edges. The german scrap wings were added last! I hope the recipients like them. My fave is the little baby hatchling!
