Artistically, I have had a wonderful year. I feel blessed because I have learnt so much and I really have “found myself”. I discovered how much I enjoy complex collages, art journalling after my own fashion – mainly angst-free and theme-led! I still enjoy making art pins and brooches; I have honed my ATC skills and developed my own variations of techniques; I have stitched like a woman possessed too – on paper, card, fabric – plain and painted – quilted and flat!
I have taken a Kelly Kilmer course and made journals, promptly filled with lots of papers and writing – really liberating and fairly funky! I took the online Art, Heart & Healing free course by Tam from Willowing and found my secret Whimsy! This course was awesome – over 1000 people took part and made friends – we cried, we hurt, we shared, we overcame and we all made art together over a 5-week period. Outstanding!
I took a few chances this year and went digital, having some of my favourite artworks printed out poster-size: (A couple now grace our hallway!) I also had a couple of T-shirt samples made up and promptly fell in love with one of my own designs!!
I contacted a major, prestigious chain of stores about it and am waiting to see if they like what they see!! Well, they have been absolutely wonderful to deal with so far and who knows? Maybe somebody in the Company will feel as passionate about my design as I do! Hey – you don’t ask, you don’t get – right?
I am emboldened and encouraged to explore my art further, as I have joined Julie Fei-Fan Balzer’s “Art Journal Every Day” and “The Sketchbook Challenge“. The prospect of the next few months is really exciting… What are you looking forward to in 2011?

/ December 30, 2010Rosie, someone soon will be so fortunate to have you design for their (chain of) stores! Be sure to go after companies in the U.S. as well. I hear so many artists moan and groan about how hard it is, and how narrow the field is, and in reality, that couldn’t be further from the truth. There is plenty of opportunity for those with the vision to see it and the tenacity to stick with it. For those who love it, it’s a piece of cake! For those who consider art a “job”, that is an oil and water attitude when it comes to art, and any success will be short lived, and not artistic. You’ve got the right attitude and the right mindset. It’s part of who you are. You will thrive. Go for it all!! XOXO
