Dipping my toes…

“Oh to dip my toes

In such an inviting stream

would feel like heaven…

… descends an angel

surrounded by rays of light

bathing me in peace.”

This is for Haiku my heArt Friday, hosted by the amazing Rebecca at Recuerda mi corazon. See more haikus and photos over there

Image and fabulous tutorial courtesy of Photoshop star… which I followed as best I could to create the mystical scene in the second image. I am hugely enjoying the learning process in Photoshop, indeed “dipping my toes” figuratively into the infinite possibilities offered by the world of digital art. It’s just amazing… and there are so many talented and generous artists who share of their knowledge and expertise freely.

Textures from Shadowhouse Creations and Kim Klassen – thank you. 🙂

Haiku my heArt

Oh winter cherry,

plump orange fruits ripening

in time for Christmas.

I like these so much although I don’t manage to keep them for long! It is, of course, an outdoor plant, but I have a bindweed epidemic in my garden and refuse to plant out any more because it just chokes the life out of everything… So, my little winter cherry tree sits on the kitchen windowsill, basking in cool climes and occasional sunshine, and we “talk” every day!

Do you talk to your plants too?

For more participants at Haiku my heArt Friday, head over to Recuerda mi corazon, where Rebecca plays hostess for us every week as we write our haikus. Everybody’s welcome to join in, especially new peeps or haiku fans! 🙂

Be it ever so humble…

For The Three Muses, Home Sweet Home this week…

It took me the best part of today (Tuesday) to create this winter wonderland from scratch! I had to create a new girl, then a penguin, an igloo and a Christmas tree and carefully weave them all together. However, I wanted to start playing with Christmas scenes so I’ll have cards ready this year and it’s great practice!

Thanks to Shadow House Creations & Kim Klassen for some of the textures; the remainder are from my scrapbook papers collection.

See all the other participants here. ♥

Red – TT

I am loving this journey into textures and layers, learning about Photoshop and what you can do with it. Today, at Texture Tuesday, we are to use at least one of Kim Klassen’s textures and the colour red. I watched “Little Red Riding Hood” starring Anna Seyfried earlier this year, so that iconic cape sprang immediately to mind. Hence this picture:

Image courtesy of D&C Films;

I used – “and then some” with soft light at 100%; copied that layer and used multiply at 76% opacity; I removed some texture from her face and the branches; I then used empty page with color burn at 85%. I added the text and used multiply at 39% after adding shadows and bevel & emboss effects.

Thanks to Kim for such luscious textures. See the other participants’ photos here.

Blackbird, crow, rook or raven?

I’ve been altering images for Take a Word’s “Blackbird” this week. I have made two different pieces, but taken liberties with “black bird”…

It’s surprising how much work goes into these digital pieces, really, because there are 2 crows here. I cut one out in order to create a proper shadow!! The font is one I came across at Jerry Jones’s Shadow House Creations – (so cool!! It’s called “Ornatique”) – as is the big tree brush in the background. Many thanks to Jerry for being so generous.

This one is an American Crow. Both images were googled and found to be in the public domain.

Textures from Kim Klassen – a new one for this weekend – “and then some”; and autumn burst. Thank you Kim!

Gratitude haiku

This is one of the lessons from Kim Klassen’s Skinny Mini e-course – texturising an image she supplied, which I really like…

La Tomatina – TT – Gratitude

When we lived in Spain – and we were there over 10 years! – we were always involved in the local fiestas. We were so lucky to have experienced everything from helping to build floats for carnivals, to making costumes for kids, to actually performing (Nick used to be a fire-eater, and I used to work with him!!), that I have super memories of those times. I choose to be grateful that we had those experience which made the memories…

So when I came across a photo of “La Tomatina” in a National Geographic magazine, I had to use it in the Khadi journal. This is a transfer onto watercolour painted backgound, which I have used as the basis for today’s Texture Tuesday entry – “Gratitude”.

Here’s a link to La Tomatina, if you’re curious about this crazy fiesta!

I used Ugg love (sepia), soft light and removed some texture from the central image;

Ladder texture with colour burn, increasing the lightness

The font is aaaiiight! fat with drop shadows, which I coloured to make it look a bit like tomato splats!! The text on the right was altered with colour burn.

So, I am grateful that although we didn’t go to the tomato fight, we got to live a lot of fiestas and enjoy them!

Another brick…

In the wall for Take a Word this week – the word being “wall”. I am going fishing with my boys today so I shall  be awol all day. To that effect I thought I’d get this posted tonight before we get caught up in the X-Factor excitement, and later, watching Strike Back:Project Dawn.

Wow! I just realised that I have used KK’s pink carnation (“pink”) as in Pink Floyd… and I loved doing  the “another” all over the place!! This is the original “pink” flower, from Kim’s Skinny Mini E-course. It’s such fun… and I keep learning new stuff all the time!

Isn’t that pretty?! I just cut out the flower to use in my wall picture…, using the blend modes for each flower I copied and resized, etc.!

See you next time! 🙂

dAISY…

The Love eDition – {Texture Tuesday}

I am so enjoying my new childhood status – it’s so full of adventures! Last night I finished my 2nd digital painting from Shwe’s online class and today I’m participating in Texture Tuesday again! Wow! There’s so much to learn and explore in this digital landscape – I am well and truly hooked!

This photos is taken on our mobile phones, in the toilets at a big supermarket. My DD, Amber, and I had been out for the day in June, on a “Thelma & Louise” style road trip! By the time we got to the facilities, it felt like that, honestly!! We had a really good day and I think it’s absolutely perfect for the Love eDition this week at Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday.

Today I wrote down what I did… 😉

Used Kim’s Fall_in texture twice – multiply at 78% opacity; soft light at 78% opacity

I did my usual drop shadow and emboss with a few tweaks for both sets of text, reducing the opacity for my signature to 28%, and for the byline to 85%. The hearts came from the shapes box, and I just added a little light and shade to them! It makes me happy… 🙂

If you want to learn more cool techniques and stuff, like me, then Kim has a Skinny mini e-course that’s free to join right now. Click HERE to go check it out!

[Bearing in  mind that this was a low-res phone pic to start with, I am really impressed with how soft Kim’s texture has made it. ]
