Madame Butterfly…

Wel, that’s not really how she started out, but that is what she became. I was drawing again last  night – must keep practising those faces – and I ended up with this:

At a tilt...

Nick did ask me why my heads are all tilted and I just shrugged… I don’t really know, but I like that!! And then when I saw the Take a Word theme for Monday is “Butterflies“, I thought how pretty she’d look as ‘Madame Butterfly’… using brushes and layers of different sizes.

Madame Butterfly

The butterfly background is from Dover (samples); I just changed the colouring to suit me. The butterflies are Photoshop brushes I made from a Dover image sample. I like this, but maybe I should stop “angling” their poor heads!?

Here is Maria Callas singing the aria from the Opera by Puccini…

Mama-san disapproves!

This week at SPA, the theme is Oriental. The MMM theme for tomorrow is “I feel pretty” – another lovely showtune chosen by Diane. This reminds me so much of the opera Madame Butterfly, which was my mother’s favourite. When I was quite young she explained the whole story to me and I remember that it always made me cry – so sad…

"I feel pretty..."

I chose the 2 lovely ladies from Home Impressions The Orient plate, as they work so well for this theme. The background text page comes from a pack that Lisa sent me (Ten Two Studios – ephemera) and it’s all stitched by machine. I used red and gold lacy scraps, wire-stemmed flowers from my stash and made a black ruffle for along the right hand side with some black lining that I tore into strips!

I’m going to have “brunch” with my DD now and then do a few odd jobs before I go off to work this afternoon. Have a lovely day, everyone!
