Curiously spooky…!!

The theme “Things that go bump in the night…” is what it’s all about at SPA today! Here’s my entry:

All the elements I used here are from Tangie Baxter’s 4th anniversary sale grab bag! I thought it would be a great place to start for practising with elements created by someone else. And it was lots of fun. It’s so interesting, applying blending modes and effects to different elements and making them your own…

Not sure how cool it is though, that I have no wish to pick up a paintbrush and get messy myself though – but, on the plus side, I have more time for play! 😉

Chrysalis emerging…

For Sunday Postcard ArtThings with wings!

This is a hybrid postcard – my altered painted background (previously used in sepia tones); the face I finished painting this evening was sketched earlier this week; and lots of brushes and layers on Photoshop. I also found a great site where I learned how to draw basic wings… HERE.

Mary, Mary, quite contrary…

Nursery Rhymes is the theme at Sunday Postcard Art this week and I got this weird idea about how to interpret it quite unexpectedly whilst looking through my stash of images… for something completely different!

You know how you quite often use a few small images for bamboo tiles – for bracelets, pins, pendants, etc. and have odd ones left over? Well I had some left that fit this theme quite well – maybe not in the conventional sense, but then that’s not me anyway, is it? Lol! These are all from the Dainty Dominos sheet at Ten Two Studios. And “Mary” is a Microscope Slide image from the new-ish Baroque Beauties sheet.

I omitted the silver bells and cockle shells because I didn’t have any!! This was fun to do… and tomorrow I’m Guesting at Mixed Media Monday – with “Greens and Blues”, so I shall prepare that post now too. Diane’s always so far ahead of me because of the different time zones, but I look forward to seeing what everyone creates with that palette. Toodles!

Happy 4th Anniversary!

Sunday Postcard Art – fellow DT member Gayle chose Vintage Children as her theme this week. So, I used all these images from the Fourth Anniversary Sheet (available as a digital download for 40 cents), to celebrate Ten Two Studios 4th anniversary. There’s a challenge and giveaway going on till 31st July, so pop on over and check it out!!

The bottlecaps are also available at Ten Two Studios!! Large number 4 stamp from Robin at MaVinci’s Reliquary. 🙂

Over the rainbow…

Sunday Postcard Art Fatma has created a beautiful postcard and chosend this as her theme this week. I decided to use a scrap background I started during the week and added some layers of stamped kitchen roll to it, plus… I started keeping kitchen roll that got paint on it from previous projects last year and they really can help make interesting aspects in collage. Got the idea from Traci Bautista’s “Collage Unleashed!!

Stamps are all from the Gothic Plate by Ria at Home Impressions (I love that angel!)

That’s me for today as I have to get ready for work soon… it’s a beautiful day here – warm and sunny; Nick’s in Wales enjoying equally good weather and has already caught a carp off the surface – so he’s a happy teddy! DD and I managed to sort out her wireless connection, so she’s happy too! 😉

Happy Birthday SPA!

Sumday Postcard Art celebrates its birthday today, so that’s the theme for this week’s challenge! Congratulations Donna & Mandy! See all the wonderful postacrd art created HERE. Here’s my offering, using a background of birthday giftwrap (DH’s snaffled by me!) and a lovely vintage “Nudie” from Ten Two Studios Collage sets.

The navy lace is from Scrapstore recycled Lingerie lace… yep, we get all sorts of wonderful stuff there! I hasten to add, it’s not from someone’s lingerie, it’s from the factory that makes them!!!! Ooh la la!! 😉

Number 9!

Or “Love Potion No.9”, the song by The Clovers, was my choice of inspiration for Sunday Postcard Art’s “Numbers” theme this week. I used an image from The Little Blue Things HERE. The stamps are from Robin at MaVinci’s – I get all my weird arty stamps and arty sayings from her – great value for money and they work – what more can one ask?!

I used the new technique from Tim Holtz on his blog – though you can’t see it in theis photo. In RL, there’s a sweet shimmer to the stamped images. I think there’s a definite influence of grunge creeping from my online painting into this postcard collage… I am distinctly grubbier today!! The outer edges in blue and red are created with Neocolours II – another recent purchase for the online class. The best bit is that I have used and enjoyed using, everything I bought so far… that’s gotta be a bonus hasn’t it?! 🙂

Jefferson Airplane & Alice!

When I saw that “Alice” was the theme over at Sunday Postcard Art this week, I decided to take the plunge and join in for the first time! I have a set of collage sheets from Ten Two Studios with fab images from Alice in Wonderland and choosing one to fit was no hard task. I spotted the words: “Go ask Alice” at the bottom of the sheet and that song by Jefferson Airplane popped into my head immediately. So now I’m showing my age!

I wanted to leave the image black and white and searched through my papers for an appropriately psychedelic sheet to no avail, so the next best thing was using the music score CB folder and going completely rainbow with the inkpad. Added some doodles, brush marker highlights and flowers – ‘cos it was the ‘Flower Power’ era, wasn’t it?

I think I remember reading somewhere that the band recorded this track whilst tripping on acid! Well however it was made, I love the weird lyrics and the haunting tune… reminds me of Chrissy Hynds from The Pretenders a bit.

DD’s into Indie music at present (as well as Dubs… and Street Dance), so I have quite a bit of mixed stuff to listen to when I’m driving around. I know most of the words to Kelly Clarkson’s ‘We belong together’… and more. I hate to think what people who see me headbanging at traffic lights think – lol!!!
