So handy!

I have been so busy lately, I haven’t had the time or the energy to get “arty” just for me. I really needed some Playtime this evening, so here’s a fabric postcard I stitched, using papers, stamps and fabrics, mixing up my medias!

You need hands!

I love these strange henna’d hands. I bought them on an impulse a couple of summers ago because they’re in a set with other designs, like paisleys, a foot, some borders, but all with a sort of Indian design…

I have been thinking a lot about “Relationships” this week (The Three Muses) and my hands are vital to my relationships (HandsTheme Thursday). Why? I gesticulate a lot, I wave my hands about when I speak, which should come as no surprise to you! I am one of those “tactile” people – I cannot resist touching – things, people, animals… in a good way of course!

I am working lots of days (6-7 a week actually!) at the moment, through the summer, which is just the way things have worked out. We live in a seasonal resort town, so the summer work is most welcome. Winter can be long and lean, though the bills are usually fat!

I am also studying, or trying to. I go to college one evening a week, doing a course to teach in Adult Education. It’s been over 30 years since I last took a serious course where essay-writing is involved and I am finding it tough, to say the least. In my relationship with my brain, I have fairly good memory skills, recall can be a problem, but I mostly get there. However, when I try to write what I do in a manner more appropriate for a Tutor or Examiner (and this is a City & Guilds Course), I struggle to organise my thoughts, despite making notes in class. I have brilliant handouts, a great Tutor and supportive classmates, but… it’s still very difficult.

So, I try to maintain my creative relationship with my right brain, whilst my left brain (probably due to under-use), is struggling to get to grips with good quality essay-writing in a clear and logical manner. Fingers crossed for a happy outcome – I really want to pass this course!

  3. Beautiful! You inspired me, and I took to the sewing machine to create a 5 x 7 for a swap in the local art group. A visit to my sewing box yielded all sorts of bits of lace, buttons, tags, etc. and I zig-zagged away happily, thinking of “Wosie Woe” in the UK. Thank you, my friend!
