The Heart of the Matter

I was invited to join in with “Buried Treasure 2010” by Seth Apter. I did this last year and found it interesting to review some of my favourite posts, but I picked a theme and not just a post. Today, I am choosing a favourite post – It highlights all the things that were important to me at that time – art journalling in the baldest sense (I don’t tend to write much on my pages!), family and friends, commitments – usually entwined! – and pushing my arty boundaries with colour and restraint!!

Mixed Media Monday“Pink”  Another page of art journalling in my altered book…

heart-of-the-matter

I used paint I had left on my palette from the canvas I’ve been working on to create this simple journal page. I think I’m getting better at letting go and going with the flow. This phrase was in my head today for a lot of reasons and as MMM’s theme is pink, it seemed quite fitting.

My lovely DH is taking me out to lunch and we have to return a George Foreman “Grill & Melt” machine which almost imploded – nearly melted itself last week whilst I was grilling bacon! I’ve had all the models of GFs since they first came out, but never one which seemed hell-bent on self-destruction, like this one. I am not going to replace it either – think I’ll buy me a good griddle pan instead…

It’s been a rough weekend – 10 hours standing in relentless rain yesterday has left me tired and aching this morning, but we had a friend in need, so… His 19 year old stepdaughter was involved in a near-fatal crash last week and is still in ICU, so we’re all a bit tense and hoping and praying she recovers, although that will be a long and tough process. There’s swelling on the brain, crushed vertebrae and more. And, she wasn’t even driving. It’s a scary world when you have teens, isn’t it?

  3. I wanted to stop by and say hello after a long absence. Dear God! I send my prayers up for your friend’s stepdaughter. That’s horrifying! I hope and pray she makes a full and speedy recovery.

I love your journal page! On that grill, maybe you should let the manufacturer know. Maybe it needs to be recalled. I once had a blowdryer shoot flames out at me. I thank God I caught in before it set my hair on fire.

    Rest up and feel better!

  10. I love your free-spirit journal page!

It’s hard to think about these accidents when you’re a parent. Too close to home for comfort, knowing that there’s always the danger out there for your own kids. All the best to the family, and hoping for a speedy and full recovery. No matter how bleak it looks, good things can and do happen. XOXO

Rosie this is such a wonderful page – I wish I could get to journalling more – I really need to loosen up and not overthink everything. Your friend’s step daughter is in my thoughts – it is indeed a scarey world! Diane
