TT- The Gratitude eDition returns…

For Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday:

Here are this week’s TT challenge details.

  • your image must contain at least one layer of any of my textures, and center around the theme of gratitude.
Another garden photo, taken close-up with my Samsung Monte.
Here’s the method, using  Kim’s ‘poetic’, my own meringue texture and Nancy’s architectural encaustic.
I love that I can ‘dodge’ and ‘burn’ so closely – it always makes me giggle!!
I am grateful for the layers in life, which I can peel back at will, to reveal what lies beneath…    😉

The tenacity of Ivy…

For this week’s Texture Tuesday, hosted by Kim Klassen , we are to use at least one layer of any of Kim’s textures. I have used music_lovin’:

Method: Copy + soft light; Music_lovin’ in colour burn mode; then copied with linear burn mode, copied again and erased the texture from the top leaf.

I took the photo with my Samsung Monte mobile phone. It’s the dead ivy on our old rotting garden shed! It’s still tenaciously clinging to the wood, even though it’s been dead for nearly a year…

“Phoebe” – TT

Texture Tuesday – we are to use at least one layer of Kim’s new texture – Phoebe. It’s so soft…

I have used Phoebe and word for this vintage photo from my collection. This one reminds me of my mother when she was a young woman and I so wish she was around to share all the little triumphs and for reassurance when I get slightly overwhelmed by “life”…

Share the love at Kim Klassen’s TT blog today – a great place to soothe your eyes and lighten your soul… ♥

…Take coffee or tea and cookies – you may be a while!

Tintagel 2009

I “borrowed” one of Nick’s lanscapes for this week’s Texture Tuesday…

Here are this week’s TT challenge details.

  • the number 2. Put your twist on the number 2, and use at least one layer of any of my textures.
These are two hills that greet you on the way down to the historic village of Tintagel in Cornwall and here’s how I achieved the grungey look with Kim’s newest texture ‘Phoebe’ and one of my faves, ‘the_ladder’:
That doesn’t really show you much, but I used mainly soft light and colour burn for my blending modes… at 100%.

Millie-mou…

I have an eclectic family and, par for the course, equally eclectic pets. We are competitive, combative, crazy and fiercely loving, so woe betide anyone who upsets any member of the clan! Family comes first in my house – and that includes the dogs, the cat and the parrot, after the humans.

We have, in order of who was first to join our family: Shadow – black British Shorthair tom cat, aged 15 – rescue cat who measure 100cms (39″), standing on his back legs; Thor – German Shepherd Dog, long-haired, very large, weighing in at 38kgs. and 10 years old; Millie-mou – Yorkshire Terrier cross, with a deformed (short) lower jaw (which is why her tongue hangs out on the right side of her mouth constantly), aged 9 years; and lastly, Gizmo – a South African Grey Conure parrot (that’d be the big ones), aged 6 with an ever-growing vocabulary.

For Kim’s Texture Tuesday today….

Your image must contain at least one layer of my ‘and then some’ texture.

Methodology: Pics taken with my Samsung Monte mobile phone – just until I get a “proper camera”!!

“And_then_some” – soft light, 100%; copied – colour burn, 65%

I also used Jerry Jones’s Vintage Bokeh (70%); Frosted Bokeh (76%) and the OMS-4 mask from his October Mask set with screen 100%.

Font: “A bite”

It is very easy to get lost in the wonderful images shared on TT… but so worth it! 🙂

The quiet angel from Glenwood

For {Texture Tuesday} The Times 2 eDition this week… I used 2 layers of ‘serious magic’ and one of ‘the ladder’ (one of my faves!). The image of the stone angel is from my friend Patty, who takes heaps of wonderful photos and is also a very accomplished artist! Mwah!

Red – TT

I am loving this journey into textures and layers, learning about Photoshop and what you can do with it. Today, at Texture Tuesday, we are to use at least one of Kim Klassen’s textures and the colour red. I watched “Little Red Riding Hood” starring Anna Seyfried earlier this year, so that iconic cape sprang immediately to mind. Hence this picture:

Image courtesy of D&C Films;

I used – “and then some” with soft light at 100%; copied that layer and used multiply at 76% opacity; I removed some texture from her face and the branches; I then used empty page with color burn at 85%. I added the text and used multiply at 39% after adding shadows and bevel & emboss effects.

Thanks to Kim for such luscious textures. See the other participants’ photos here.

La Tomatina – TT – Gratitude

When we lived in Spain – and we were there over 10 years! – we were always involved in the local fiestas. We were so lucky to have experienced everything from helping to build floats for carnivals, to making costumes for kids, to actually performing (Nick used to be a fire-eater, and I used to work with him!!), that I have super memories of those times. I choose to be grateful that we had those experience which made the memories…

So when I came across a photo of “La Tomatina” in a National Geographic magazine, I had to use it in the Khadi journal. This is a transfer onto watercolour painted backgound, which I have used as the basis for today’s Texture Tuesday entry – “Gratitude”.

Here’s a link to La Tomatina, if you’re curious about this crazy fiesta!

I used Ugg love (sepia), soft light and removed some texture from the central image;

Ladder texture with colour burn, increasing the lightness

The font is aaaiiight! fat with drop shadows, which I coloured to make it look a bit like tomato splats!! The text on the right was altered with colour burn.

So, I am grateful that although we didn’t go to the tomato fight, we got to live a lot of fiestas and enjoy them!

The Love eDition – {Texture Tuesday}

I am so enjoying my new childhood status – it’s so full of adventures! Last night I finished my 2nd digital painting from Shwe’s online class and today I’m participating in Texture Tuesday again! Wow! There’s so much to learn and explore in this digital landscape – I am well and truly hooked!

This photos is taken on our mobile phones, in the toilets at a big supermarket. My DD, Amber, and I had been out for the day in June, on a “Thelma & Louise” style road trip! By the time we got to the facilities, it felt like that, honestly!! We had a really good day and I think it’s absolutely perfect for the Love eDition this week at Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday.

Today I wrote down what I did… 😉

Used Kim’s Fall_in texture twice – multiply at 78% opacity; soft light at 78% opacity

I did my usual drop shadow and emboss with a few tweaks for both sets of text, reducing the opacity for my signature to 28%, and for the byline to 85%. The hearts came from the shapes box, and I just added a little light and shade to them! It makes me happy… 🙂

If you want to learn more cool techniques and stuff, like me, then Kim has a Skinny mini e-course that’s free to join right now. Click HERE to go check it out!

[Bearing in  mind that this was a low-res phone pic to start with, I am really impressed with how soft Kim’s texture has made it. ]
